The mountain hostel...

In July of 1909 the Centro Excursionista de Catalunya (Catalonia) inaugurated the chalet-hostel in Ulldeter (the first in the Iberian Peninsula) , which provided shelter to intrepid hikers until the Spanish Civil War broke out in 1936. It was located on the top of a cliff in "el Circo de Ulldeter" at an altitude of 2,393m. In the "nuevecentitas" style it has been a symbol admired by mountaineers and lovers of architecture.
After the war and the wear and tear on the building, it was decided to build a new one.

The new mountain hostel in Ulldeter

Located in the lower part of el Circo de Ulldeter , at 2,220m, was inaugurated in 1959. During these last forty years since its construction the refuge has had several renovations which have improved its facilities.

Sleeping quarters...

The hostel has 52 places in total. There are 3 rooms of six and 2 of ten and 1 of eight places, all equipped with blankets. You will need a sleeping bag.

The facilities...

Bathroom and show facilities with hot water.
Electricity and hot water generated by solar energy.

Maps of the area...

In the refuge there is a small bookshop where you can find different guides and maps of the area on sale.

The free part of the hostel...

Lodges 6-8 people, blankets and a woodstove. Open the days that the hostel is closed.

Who's in charge of all of this?

Me, Xevi Bosch, I have been the caretaker of the hostel since December of 1987. Since then I have been responsible for the smooth running of the hostel and I try to make sure that everyone who passes through takes away with them good memories of their stay with us.
This would not be possible without the help of the team of assistants who help me daily to make the hostel a success.
