timetables , high grounds and low grounds and a geological and
historical description of the area.
Below we show the 39th stage (Núria-Setcases) and the path 7,
which make up the Ulldeter area.


(Pyrenees Track)
The long distance track (GR11) is a
route which crosses/traverses the whole the Pyrenees Range , from
the Atlantic to the Mediterranean Sea joining various peoples,
countries and cultrues.
This marked out route passes through trails which, in the past,
have been very important for communication.
The track offers the hiker some beautiful countryside/landscapes,
cultural and historical features of interest of great interest and
beauty. From Cape Híger (Cantabria) to the Cape Creus ( Mediterranean)
the route unites several diverse cultures: basque, Navarran, Aragon,
Andorran and Catalonian and at the same time lets the hiker to
discover and have access to the greatness and history of these lands
of the Pyrenees Mountain Range.
NÚRIA- ULLDETER MOUNTAIN HOSTEL
Duration: 4h 30mn.
Slopes: +1.100m, -675m
Route:
Núria Sanctuary (1,967m) We leave from the funicular train station
(estación del cremaleera) northEast along the track that goes from
Noufonts and to Noucreus, the route follows the right handside (left
margen) of the stream, further up from the confluence* of the Noufon
ts river the track, cross the Mulleres Stream by using the bridge.
A little further on the path comes to a fork and we go to the left
and reclimb towards Noufonts Valley.
We go up the valley and shortly after crossing the Fond mountain pass
we reach the Noufonts pass.
Noufonts Valley (2,645m). Then we go along the ridge in a
southeasterly direction and later turn East. We reach the Noucreus
Peak (2,785m), a little after "la fosa del Gegant" Peak (2,805) we
go down towards the Caranca Pass (2730m). From here the track leaves
down to Coma de Vaca. We continue towards the Vaca peaks (2,785),
we skirt the mountain in the direction of Tirapits Pass (2,791m).
From here the path zigzags down towards the "coma del Freser", we
pass alongside the Tirapits Cabin, which is equipped for "free accomo
dation" (refugio libre). The route descends until you arrive at
the "Aiguols Podrits", the point where we join up with path 7
f the "Gran Recorrido" which comes from the hostel at Coma de
Vaca.
The track goes up gently until the to Marrana Pass (2,520m).
From the other side we can contemplate the 'circos' from Morens and
from Ulldeter, the peak of the woman (el pico de la Dona), "portella
de Mantet " and the Massif of Canigó towards the East. We go down
the valley and in just over 20 minutes we reach the hostel at Ulldeter.
NÚRIA-ULLDETER MOUNTAIN HOSTEL (path 7 of the "GR-11")
Duration: 5h 15mn.
Slopes: +650m, -400m
Route:
Núria Sanctuary (1,967m) We left from the funicular train station
( La cremallera) South East along the route "Les Creus".
Soon after we arrive at a small pass where there is an inclined
cross, we leave to our right thepath which goes up to the hostel.
Further on we cross the Fontnegre Stream using the bridge. With
a gentle slope we skirt the mountain towards the SouthEast until
we arrive at the Riscos de Pedrisses ( Pedrisses Crags), from here
we can enjoy the magnificent panorama of the Freser and Núria
Ravines , of Ribes Valley. We pass alongside the the Cabin of the
Shepherds of Pedrisses, from here the slope of the path
becomes steeper. Keep going around and
crossing the small steep crests. Further on we cross Joan Déu
Stream and traverse the a rocky crest and pass near some ruins
shepherds' old huts. The track continues quite high and we pass
the Balma Stream. We go underneath Torreneules in surroundings
of spectacular rocks, hills and crests. We go down towards the
gully of Malinfern, a stream which plunges down from the
Torreneules and crashes once again down to the Freser Ravine.
Soon we start to see the plain of Coma de Vaca, the path goes down
in a North East direction. We descend through the meadow until we
arrive at the hostel at Coma de Vaca.
From here the track keeps in a Northern direction, we follo the
Freser River , we go without losing sight of the "bastiments" in
the high part of the valley. Finally we arrive at the meeting point
of the path which comes from Núria and passes through Noufonts, we
take it in the direction of the Marrana Peak. From there we can
reach the Ulldeter Hostel in a little more than 20 minutes.
ULLDETER MOUNTAIN HOSTEL-SETCASES
Duration: 2h.
Slopes: -980m
Route:
Ulldeter Hostel (2,220m) We leave the hostel NorthEast going
down the track which zigzags, we cross the Ter River by using the
wooden walkway and keep going down the righthand side of the river
until we arrive at the main road which connects Setcases with Vallter.
We continue until we reach the lower carpark of the ski station
which we leave to our right. Some 100 metres further along the
track leave the road and keep along the old path of Ulldeter which
follows the river. We pass through the Morens Strait and a littel
further on we arrive at the Molina Plain (1,600m), from here the GR
continues along the Vallter main road , which takes us until
Setcases (1,265m)

(High Pyrenees Route)
Just like the previuos route, this one also covers the whole
Pyrenees axis from sea to sea from Hendaya to Portbou, like its name
indicates which during its whole course covers the highest peaks and
crests of the entire range. This route is not marked out (excluding
the most difficult parts). This crossing is for people with experien
ce in high mountain routes (in contrast to the GR-11, a route intende
d for not losing time in finding the way because it is indicated).
You must take care not to get lost in the many stretches of the
route.
Below we explain the 2 stages which connect Eyne with Ulldeter and
Ulldeter with the Marialles Mountain Hostel.
EINA-ULLDETER MOUNTAIN HOSTEL
Duration: 7h 30mn.
Slopes: +1.832m, -1.047m
Route:
From the town of Eina we take the D29 road in heading for Llo, after
about 400m we leave it and take the forest track which goes from our
left until the end, where we take the path which goes down stream
and we go up the Eina Valley. We keep going up the left bank where
the river separates from us to cover a wall of rocks. Following
that the path crosses a very high area. We pass the other bank ,
we keep going until shepherds cabin which we leave to our right.
Further on we cross some pastures and come back to cross the stream.
At this point it is convenient to fill the water bottle because
from here on you are not going to find water again until a little
before arriving at Marrana Peak.
We go up following the tracks with a steep incline until Eina Peak
(2,794). Along the crest we go towards the Noufonts Peak (2,861m),
we follow the track until it goes down a little along the left of
the ridge, going down until arriving at Noufonts Peak (2,682m).
From here we continue until the Ulldeter hostel following the
signs of the GR-11.
ULLDETER MOUNTAIN HOSTEL-MERIALLES MOUNTAIN HOSTEL
Duration: 7h 00mn.
Slopes: +341m, -843m
Route:
From the Ulldeter Hostel we go down the track Northeast following
the GR-11 until arriving at the main road which joins Vallter with
Setcases. We go up the road until the parking of the ski station,
we pass by the right of the restaurant and keep going along the
track which goes up, we cross the brook at a height of 2,300m above
sea level and go up until we reach the Portella de Morens (2,381m)
We go towards the East the following the route marked with stones unt
il Roc Colom, until reaching the portell de Concrós (2,387m). We go
around North of the Roc Colom and continue Northeast to reach the
Esquerdes de Rotjá following the tracks which pass through the left
of the serrated crest.
We arrive at the Peak of Roques Blanques (2,252m), we cross the
forest trail which joins Mentet with La Presta.
We continue towards the Northeast along the lefthandside of the
crest following the forest rail until Pla Guillem (2,300m) where
we find a shepherds cabin and a small free hostel. We take the way
towards the cross of Llipodera along the track and from there we
reach the Marialles Hostel (1,710m).
